We just finishing killing off the shadows that was plaguing the nobleman Reginald Longbottle. Not only did he claim his friend killed him but he was being tormented by these fiendish creatures. Just when I think things could not get any worse.
I have pity for Reginald, he appears to have suffered a mental breakdown after his ordeal. He was captured, tricked, torture and resurrected and that ordeal has left him a shell of his former self. A broken man who has endured so much.
Veritas came up with an ingenuous plan as posing as Reginald. The plan was to draw out any attacks meant for Reginald. I agree with the plan as did everyone else. As everyone files out I linger for a few momments and whisper into Reginald’s ear.
In a hush tone I say “When you make a commitment to be true to yourself and to your dreams, the possibilities for your life truly are endless. The first step in becoming a more courageous individual is to take an honest look at who you are today and think about the person who you’d like to become tomorrow.”
I could see him shaking and tears streaming down his face, I continued, “Take some time to think about what it is that you believe will bring even more happiness to your life and tell yourself that it is absolutely possible to achieve anything! Don’t doubt yourself.”
I ended my words of encouragement with “I will pray to Mother and Father to restore you.”
I could tell my words gave him hope but cause him sadness as well. Only time will tell if he can indeed recover from his ordeal.
We decide to parade around time with Veritas posing as Reginald and runs into the town social gossip reporter. A beautiful Elvin sister, it does my heart good to see my people in town. We try to shoo her away but she was very persistent.
Veritas showed her his pendant as I believe the belong to the same order. That caused her to excuse herself and blend into the crowd. When then returned back to the city jail to speak with the captain of the guards. He too was surprised at Veritas disguise.
Veritas and Philip went to speak with Anotine Blacktree. I am not sure what transpired but once the finished we decided to head back to the Longbottle manor. We would rest up and prepare for the tonight’s trap.
We arrive at the graveyard and check the grounds and found nothing of consequence. Then it all changed, Greytome yells out different directions that we are being surrounded. I then heard in the dark language “Patience they did not see us, but there is human magic”
Before my very eyes two drow appear out of the shadows and then I knew a female was in front of me not sure exactly where. They were able to get the jump on us, but Mother and Father blessed me this day and I was able to react quickly.
I stretched out my hand and asked mother and father to let the lands rise up and stop these enemies. The area in front of me sprouts with green lush vegetation as another dark one appeared caught in the new vegetation. He was a arcane caster.
With but a wave of the hand he dismissed the vegetation that mother and father created. He then spoke in his native tongue which I understood mocking me saying that my human magic is meaningless. How dare he compare mother’s and father’s divine power to human magic.
I could hear the arrows hum through the air as I notice the arcane caster cried out in pain. I am pretty sure it was Veritas that cause him harm. As I moved forward to engage the dark priestess appeared before me. Speaking in my tongue she cursed me and attacked me with a whip that had snakes at the end of it. She landed multiple attacks on me and I could feel my life seeping away.
Her eyes. She took pleasure is causing me harm. She delighted in my misery and the pain she caused. I unleashed a mighty roar as mother and father granted me the ability to once again become the mighty bear.
I mauled her and slashed her deeply with my attacks. Inflicting serious wounds onto her. The half came and helped me, by attacking her with a flurry of blows. I even saw Veritas fire a arrow into her back.
She cursed more and grab blood from the ground. Her own blood. She shouted something that I could not understand. What I saw next will haunt me for years to come. A vile creature sprouted from the ground behind me.
I killed the dark priestess and turned my attention to the new threat. And yet again I was amazed for as I landed the killing blow, I saw her soul ripped from her body by the creature. She begged me to save her and scream and then was consumed by the monster she summoned.
I moved to engage the creature and had to shake off the hideous sight of the creature. The half did not fair as well and hesitated to move forward before running away. I can not blame him, the creature was grotesque.
The creature hit me so hard that he knocked me out of my bear form and damaged my mortal body. I have never had that happen to me. The demon then proceeded to invade my mind, try as I might I could not prevent it from reading my mind.
I quickly transformed to a bear again and made a tactical withdrawal to the rest of the party. The creature delighted in my mind as it probed deeper. It then shouted each of our names saying IT knows our name. It then casts a fireball onto itself blowing up and damaging the walls as well as the half and myself.
Philip of Taris notice the cup of truth from the mausoleum, and all I could think was where was he when this creature smacked me down. For that matter where was everyone? I felt as if I had let everyone down because I could not hide my thoughts. But after observing the effect the creature had on the others some of my doubt faded away.
I will promise Mother and Father that I will destroy that abomination of a creature whenever I see it again, or dye trying.
