I took a deep breath and took in the freshness of the air. I could see them over six hundred feet away. Their gaze was fixed on the tower that we took refuge in.
I could hear the muffled conversations from the others no doubt discussing our current predicament in the tower. My mind wandered back to the pack of wolves as I gripped my bow tightly. They were out of my range and I could not afford to waste precious arrows. I took another deep breath and decided to size of my enemy for the upcoming battle. I counted six large wolves, nine werewolves, and one lone hybrid type wolf.
My gazed rested on the hybrid and I tried to determine his strength. I was confident that I was stronger and agile and overall more skilled than it, but I also deduced it would be resilient in combat and had great fortitude for extended combat. The hybrid also had greater numbers to aid him in battle.
I glanced down below to see Kreigos Stormsurge exiting the tower. Though I could not make out the words I knew he was preparing some type of arcane spell. His actions provoked the wolf pack as they began their charge towards the tower.
The wolves were moving with such great speed. The six large wolves were leading the pack. I took a shot from the top of the tower and my arrow found its mark. The wolf yelped loudly as it slumped to the ground. I took another shot and killed another wolf. It was a given I was the first line of defense for the party.
I took another breath and fired two more shots at the charging wolf pack. I hit two wolves but did not stop their stride. I fired again at the other two wolves and manage to kill one. I understood how important my role was to our party. My mind went back to my town, and how I viewed myself as its defender. When I snapped out of my day dream I notice I had killed all six of the charging wolves before they ever reached the tower.
I focused my attacks on the next set of wolves, the fabled werewolves. My shot held true but it shrugged off the arrow which seemed to have no effect on it. I fired another shot in hopes of tripping the creature up. I wanted to buy more time for my party, but the creature would not be deterred and nimbly kept its stride. I tried one more shot to push the creature back and though the arrow did not damage it, I was able to spin the creature fifteen feet back.
I could smell the air change and feel the heat as the werewolves reached about a hundred or so feet to the tower Ander unleashed the great fire. Singeing both the werewolves and the surrounding area. I was grateful of the fact I was safe in my perch from those effects.
I then focused on the hybrid with another trick shot aimed at tripping it. Again I noted how the arrows cause no damage but the effect was effective as the creature fell flat on its face. I saw the dragon again and I fired the perfect shot landing the arrows right between its eyes. Though it cause no damage I took comfort in the fact that the creature knew it had been bested!
Both Caine and Kreigos took to the field and engage the werewolves. I am not sure what happened next as I decided to leave my perch in order to help with the fight. I jumped on the rope and slid down to the bottom and rushed out.
I could see several of the werewolves had been killed and one was on Ander. I rushed to his aid and used my great sword to chop the beast into two pieces. I turned to Ander and notice a nasty bite on his neck.
I asked him “Can you enchant my arrows?”
His reply was “No I cannot”
I mumbled back to him “You are no use to me!”
I rushed off to engage the remaining wolves but they were fleeing. I must apologize to Ander for my comments, if I am to be a good leader I must learn to respect all and not make flippant comments of people’s worth.
Caine returned with the hybrid who at this point reverted to his human form. The creature was begging for its life and trying to barter for its release. It also kept staring at Ander with a anticipation of something to come.
My heart is heavy, the others seem to want to kill the creature. I am content on letting it go once we have the information we need.
Only time will tell what decision we make!
