After a much needed rest, we gathered our gear and headed south to deal with Baba Lysaga. I have always know but this is the first time I really took notice, I rarely see the sun, it is always cloudy and overcast in this land. The entire land can be depressing at times.
As we came upon a fork in the path we spotted a flicker of light further south. There was a discussion on how to get to the light. Eventually we dismissed the idea of crossing the river and proceeded to move further south. The intensity of the flicker light magnified as we proceeded closer to the ruin town.
In the distance we saw two people conversing and then one transformed into a raven a flew away. The other approached us on a rickety raft. Kreigos Stormsurge introduced himself to us. He was a half-elf of medium build and dressed in flowing robes. He informed us that he was doing reconnaissances and spotted Baba and six other witches.
Kreigos wanted us to wait for reinforcements from the town before we engage Baba and the others. After a few rounds of discussions it was decided that we should proceed without assistance from the townsfolk for their safety. We moved at a snail pace along the river to sneak up on Baba when we encountered a menacing looking scarecrow.
Ander speaks in an arcane tongue and closes his eyes. A few moments later he informed us the scarecrows were stuffed with dark raven feathers. We had another discussions and it was decided that we would attack the nearest scarecrow with everything we have hopefully killing it instantly.
It was a sound plan but I decided to hang back as I had confidence in my archery ability which gave me such a great range. Ander, Kreigos, and Frost unleashed a fury of both arcane and divine magics on the nearest scarecrow. As it died it let out a high pitch screech alerting everyone of our presence.
Baba appeared and the other scarecrows started advancing on our position. Baba was to far for even my range but I took the time to pepper the scarecrows as they advanced upon us. My teammates could not do anything as they had no form of range attacks that could cover great distances.
Baba jumped up on top of a great skeleton head and it arose off the ground. With such great speed she charged towards us. She was at my max range, but I did not see Baba. My mind flash back to the great dragon terrorizing the land. I aimed for a kill shot between the dragons eyes and heard my arrow hum through the air. In a split second I realized that I was firing at Baba and not a dragon. But my aim held true, the arrow hit Baba with such force that she was pushed off the skull head and was plummeting to the ground. Before she hit the ground she transformed into swarm of bugs.
I could see out of the corner a greenish mist form as Kriegos chants something in an arcane tongue. It appears that some of the witches were trying to sneak up on us but Kreigos spotted them. His spell was creating a barrier between us and them. Ander used the same tactic and created a wall of fire in front of Baba and her minions of scarecrows.
Both Caine and Vorngast rushed forward pushing Baba and the scarecrows into the wall of fire and trying to keep them there. Frost offered divine healing and blessings to the party. His actions marked him as a threat, a few moments later he was turned into a lamb.
Kreigos kicked the lamb frost, at what I guess was an attempt to break the spell. Having fail Kreigos headed for cover behind a wall. One of the hags turned its gaze at me and hurled a bolt of lighting towards me. My body writhed in agony as the lighting coursed through my body. Another hag decided to follow up the successful attack with an attack of their own pounding my body with magic energies.
These hags were going to die by my hands, or so I thought. Baba fell before the might of our team, and with Ander’s and Kreigos’s spell placements we were keeping the enemies at bay. Three of the hags simply disappeared or as I like to call it turn tail and run. Their actions ended the spell on Frost who quickly healed the injured.
We made short work of the remaining enemies and paused to determine our next course of action. I could feel a smile creeping over my face as I remember the shot that brought Baba down. Though it was intended for a dragon, Baba would do. No doubt about it I will be ready to face the dragon when the time comes.
