The Fall 2018 roleplaying games sales charts has seen Dungeons & Dragons continuing to rule the roost, while Pathfinder slipped out of the top five.
ICv2 has released its chart of the top-selling roleplaying games (based on interviews with retailers, distributors, and manufacturers), and Wizards of the Coast remains the industry leader as D&D’s Fifth Edition holds its spot at #1.
Paizo’s Pathfinder is typically in the #2 or #3 position, often trading off with the company’s space-faring RPG Starfinder. In spring of last year it was at #3 but has since fallen out of the top five as Pathfinder fans await the upcoming release of the game’s second edition. (As EN World notes, D&D similarly dropped out of the top five just before Fifth Edition came out.
With Pathfinder out of the top spot, Fantasy Flight Games has surged. Legend of the Five Rings, which released its Fifth Edition in October, rode the new release to the #2 spot. That put Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars RPG (consisting of the Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and Force & Destiny games) at #3. Starfinder came in at #4 followed by White Wolf’s Vampire, which similarly released its Fifth Edition in August.
Joining Pathfinder in dropping off the top five was Fantasy Flight’s Genesys system.
