I awaken to voices off in the distance, people were talking about filling out a report. I open my eyes carefully and see Lucius on a bed across from me.
I scan the room and then sit up to try and figure out where we were. Lucius says in a calm voice as if reading my mind “We are in jail of the quartermasters guard.”
I lay back down as my body ached trying not to move as my mind started racing over what my next course of actions should be. I decide to pick the locks only to discover I have no gear only the clothing on my body.
I arise and move to the jail door banging on it calling out to the guards. A guard emerges from a room and tells me to settle down and not to ask him for any food. I ask anyway trying to draw him near me in hopes of relieve the key from him. This guard was well trained and would not approach the cell door.
I lay back down and wait for another opportunity. Lucius starts to fidget and then out of thin air creates a picking tool for me. He literally creates a tool out of thin air, is there any limit to what he can do? He tells me to work quickly, and no sooner did I finish picking the lock the tool vanish from which it came.
I then sneak pass the guards and over here them talking loudly about where are the others and why are they alone. I see a chest in the room with the guards calling my name, I am a thief after all, but I have to ignore it for now. I exit the building and hide and await for Lucius to make it out.
Lucius emerges and I signal him to my location with a whistle. He then tells me that we need to return to get our gear. I would rather not but Lucius can be quite persuasive with his good arguments.
After several minutes of discussions and planning we decide Lucius would kill the torches and candles with his arcane tricks. I would sneak in under the cover of darkness and retrieve our gear. Since the guards are humans the will not be able to see in the dark. It was really child’s play and I was able to retrieve all our gear.
We then went to a inn a bought food and got a room for the night. Lucius had the forethought to disguise himself as a human using his arcane tricks. Again I must say is there anything he can not do? I have never been so thankful because in the middle of the night we were awoken by a commotion as guards were looking for a tiefling. We were plotting our escape when we overheard them questing a tiefling in a room, the gaurds were upset as they were looking for a blue tiefling and not a red one. Lucius disguise.
In the morning we get breakfast as Lucius utilize his arcane tricks again to disguise himself. We coax a little information out of the barmaid as she informs us that the Lord mage was slain and that the suspects escape from the jail. We thanked the barmaid for the info, tipped hr well and proceeded to return to the rat’s lair.
We return to the house only to find it has been abandon. We search the house but it is clear to us the left it and do not plan to return. The only clue we were able to find was a parchment stating “Spiders Delivered”.
Lucius is convinced our cover is blown.
We meet up with Zacarius and he informs us that both the quartermaster and Vam the Lord’s mage are both alive. But the Harbormaster and the Raven Lornell were both poison resulting in their deaths.
I tuned out of the conversation that Lucius was having with Zacarius. My mind replayed the battle with the shadow monk and whether or not our cover is indeed blown. I know I should pay attention but I can not help thinking that we are truly heading into the unknown.
