Know Thy Players (November 2018)

So for the most part of this year my players have been trapped in a dungeon trying to find their way out. They have set off traps, fought monsters, and experience visions.

I am still having a blast DMing for my players, though I must admit I could do a better job on rules preparation. To be honest I am done with this edition of Pathfinder and looking forward to running them in the Playtest version. The only issues is that they have to finish this dungeon first before we move on.

So with that being said I am still impressed with my players and their cooperative team work. I am truly fortune to have such a good set of players 😉

In our last session the players came to the understanding that light in the dungeon is getting weaker and soon they will be in total darkness. They players were also pretty banged up and wanted to rest but they have only so much time. I was shooting for a sense of suspense, urgency, and a tab bit of fear of the unknown.

Deep in the dungeon the party encountered a pack of spectral wolves, who gave them a threatening warning of territory.  The party ignored it for the most part with the cleric invading their space. The wolves attacked and eventually took the cleric down. The fighting was going to wage on when a player noticed that the wolves were threatening to kill the character if the party continues. The party stood down and was able to recover the cleric.

Having an unconscious and dying cleric really put a damper on the party. Two members had to drag him as they searched for a way out. Of course with the party pushing forward they ran across Charlotte and her pups. In a move that would make batman proud Charlotte webbed the bard and pulled him up to the ceiling before anyone could react. For his part the bard was able to perform escape artist and free himself and manage to tumble back down to the ground with out any damage.

Charlotte tried again with the monk with the same results. A perfect execution of entrapment, with a perfect escape artists and acrobatics check. The pups were not doing so well either. If I am to be honest, I was worried this encounter would wipe them but I was rolling pretty badly and they players were victories. When Greytome the Sorcery Rogue enchanted his bow and killed a pup, I was impressed 🙂

My take away from this session is that I do have to do a better job managing players movement. It did get a bit hectic at times and some people were getting skipped. I think I have a solution for it and will try it next session. We plan to play in December as a make up session, and I look forward to finishing off this Dungeon and moving on to PlayTest.
