THE LEGEND OF THE BELL OF SEGRALORNE.

“Come young one,” Drendena called to her youngest grandchild Arieanna. ” it is time for bed.
“Awe…..one more story?” She pleaded from the hallway “Ill be good…. I promise.”
“I’ve heard that one before. But how do I know you will keep your promise?” She asked placing her hand on the child’s back herding her forward gently.
Arieanna saw that she was being pushed into the darkened room. She did not want to go in there. The darkness scared her and she was afraid of the monsters that lurked within
“Grandma, I’m afraid.” She said back peddling against her grandmothers push. “The monsters will get me. The ones that live in the dark.”
“If I tell you one more story, Will you go in there with me., and keep your promise. We shall brave this danger together.” She persuaded.” Besides, I have something that will protect us.
Arieanna looked to the darkened room then to her grandmother who was giving her a sly smile.
“You do? ” she asked ” what is it?
Drendena produced something wrapped in an old grey cloth. Her grandmother carefully unwrapped it. It was a small hand sized golden bell. It had a small leather cord strung through the top of it. She held the bell by the cord and it dangle.

“What’s that?” She asked ” pointing to the bell.

“This is what will protect us.” She replied with another sly smile. “It’s like the bell from legend. The bell of Segralorne

“The bell from what?” Arieanna said confused
” Hush now. You’ll see” her grandmother said. She  breathed a few words and brushed her hand across the bell. It produced a soft light that illuminated the all ready lit room. It looked like a small golden lantern. She then produced a small golden rod from the cloth the bell was wrapped in.
” Shall we go in she said moving towards the dark room with the bell extended in front of her in one hand and the rod in the other.

Arianna nodded and grabbed onto her mothers skirt. Her grandmother proceeded in to the room with Arieanna following close behind. As she entered the dark room, the light from the bell pushed the darkness back. She struck the bell with the rod. The bell rang out and light burst from the bell washing the room briefly with more light.
“Back you monsters, begone all who hide in the shadows.  ” she said striking the bell again sending another wave of light into the room
Arieanna was amazed and curious at what her grandma was doing.she had all but forgotten about her fear. Her grandmother continued into the room and she followed less afraid than before. They reached her bed and Arieanna jumped in. Her grandmother turned back towards the door and gave the bell another ring.
“You shall not ever harm this young one as long as this bell is here to protect her. Beware the holy bell of Segralorne.
Drendena turned back around to face her now smiling granddaughter.
“What’s a Segralorne” she asked.
Her grandmother looked at her with a smile then it faded. She handed the bell to her. It still shimmered with the light spell she had placed on it. She sat next to her on the bed.
“Segralorne was a city long ago. It was the city whose warriors fought back bravely against the horde of monsters who plagued us all during the angelic wars. Many of them had lost their lives to keep their city and their surrounding cities safe. As payment for their bravery and the price they paid to save us all, the gods granted them a gift. This gift would protect them all for years to come. It was the bell of Segralorne.   This bell when rung produced a wave much like this tiny bell did. Any demon, dark spirit, or monster caught in its path would be instantly thrown back and seriously damaged. A second ring from the bell would weaken them, and a third would destroy them.
“You rang the bell three times grandmother” Arieanna said. “Does that mean you destroyed the monsters?”
“Yes,” she said,” for now, but if they ever come back you have your own bell now. Which will protect you. She smiled again at her granddaughter
“What ever happened to the real bell? The bell of Segralorne.”
Drendenas smile faded. No one knows. The city of Segralorne disappeared sometime during the great rift. Maybe you will be the one who will find it when you are older and ring the bell that will protect us all once again from the darkness.
“Maybe I will” Arieanna said clutching the bell. “Someday”
Drendena kissed her on the forehead and wished her good night. I’m sure you will. Let that tiny bell protect you till you find the real one. She left her sleeping granddaughter there who was still clutching the small lit golden bell.

Hark, you hear the Bell
It calls us all to arms
It protects us from the dark
As we protect it from all harm

The demons and evil surround us
They come descending on us all
If not for the bell ringer and his hammer
Our city and world shall fall

Ring the bell ring the bell
Let it forever sing
Purge all that try to kill us
With its all protective sting

POSSIBLE PLOT POINTS

Arieanna, older now, hires the adventures to quest for the bell with her. Arieanna could be an eleven wizard like her grandmother in the story. It is your choice as a GM as to what class and lvl she is.

The town of Segralorne fell to a demon by the name of Malah’ashk the mistbringer. He seeped in through the towns defenses as a long snake like mist and slaughtered the bell ringer and half the town before the townsfolk knew what was happening. He damaged the bell, and covered the town in a thick mist. It then laid waste to the rest of the town under the cover of mist. The town, to this day is still under the mist veil. many have lost their way in the mist and were never heard from again.

Malah’ashk is a long snake like demon with legs. It reassembles a Chinese dragon whose body is covered in mist. It can take mist form 3 times per day and at gms discretion can have a miss chance percentage or give disadvantage when attacking it.

When the adventurers find the city they may have to repair the bell so they can use it against the demon. The bell, when rung, rips he demon out of mist form and stuns it.

The town itself could hold information that furthers the story to your campaign. They might find something they need to continue in the campaign that has been lost for centuries.

Drendena seeks out the party to search for the whereabouts of her granddaughter who disappeared looking for the lost city. She would do anything to get her back.

THE SPOILS

The bell of Segralorne could be transported to fight a greater threat that may be in the grand scheme of your campaign.

Arieanna could pay your adventurers in gold or magic items from her or her grandmothers collection. Her elvish grandmother could enchant items for the party as payment

The organs from the demon could be used to make magical weapons and armor. The eyes could be used in enchanting an item with true sight. The scales of the beast could be used to make a mist armor that grants disadvantage once or twice per day. They could also fetch a good price to the right buyer.

That’s it for this months writers block. Hope you enjoyed your visit to the block and happy writing.
